Madam,

I read with interest the article about the plans to build a new block of flats on the site of the former Brettles factory shop on Chapel Street in Belper have been thrown out at an appeal.
Also that the inspector, Olivia Spencer said: "The main issues are firstly the effect on the character and appearance of the Belper and Milford Conservation Area, on the setting of De Bradelei House which is listed and on the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site."

I sincerely hope Ms Spencer or whoever has the job at the time applies the same diligent thinking about the Belper and Milford Conservation Area and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site when a certain large supermarket chain tries to wangle its way into Belper by offering everyone concerned thirty pieces of silver for whatever they want.
